Accounting Panel with CSU Monterey bay
Adventures in the Exciting World of Accounting: A Recap

On November 20, 2025, West 十分六合彩 College welcomed two esteemed professionals鈥擬ichael Bryant, CPA, Partner at BryMar CPAs, and M. Shah, MBA, MBT, CPA, Shareholder at Stevens, Sloan & Shah CPAs鈥攚ho illuminated the dynamic and rewarding field of accounting. The speakers emphasized the critical role CPAs play in helping businesses and individuals navigate their financial landscapes to achieve their goals.

Adding to the excitement of the event, Dr. Shaowen Hua from California State University, Monterey Bay鈥檚 Accounting Program shared a groundbreaking announcement: CSU Monterey Bay will launch a bachelor鈥檚 degree in accounting in Fall 2025. This new offering will make CSU Monterey Bay the third campus, out of 23 in the Cal State system, to provide a bachelor鈥檚 degree fully dedicated to accounting.

The speakers painted a vivid picture of accounting as a 鈥減eople profession,鈥 emphasizing that whether you work in audit, tax, or consulting, the core of the job is solving people鈥檚 problems. They also tackled the hot topic of artificial intelligence in the profession. While acknowledging AI's growing presence, they reassured the audience that accountants won鈥檛 be replaced鈥攂ecause the work requires not only intellect but also empathy and human judgment. As one speaker aptly put it, AI will allow accountants to become 鈥渢he laziest smart people,鈥 enhancing efficiency without replacing the need for skilled professionals.

To prepare for success in the field, the speakers encouraged students to broaden their horizons by taking psychology and communication classes in addition to mastering technical accounting skills. When it comes to landing a job, they advised students to create polished LinkedIn profiles, leverage school networking opportunities, and always send resumes as PDFs (and remember to triple-check for typos).

Students walked away not only inspired by the wisdom shared but also entertained by the lively personality and banter of the speakers, making the event a memorable and motivational experience for all who attended.

Mia Shafer

Graphic Design student, Mia Shafer, created the Entrepreneurship Center鈥檚 new logo. Mia has been at West 十分六合彩 College since 2022 and is currently working toward a certificate in Graphic Design. She loves seeing her ideas become a part of the final design and has long been interested in art and design. Her first classes at West 十分六合彩 included beginning drawing and watercolors. Some of the classes she has enjoyed the most are her counseling classes where she gets to learn about all the different career options available that incorporate art.

In terms of her design of this logo, Mia knew she wanted to incorporate the 鈥淓鈥 for the Entrepreneurship Center (called the E-Center for short) into the design and ended up making it the base of the lightbulb. The lightbulb concept came to her right away as it has long signified ideas and learning. And she said, 鈥渋f it was a West 十分六合彩 program, then it must contain parts of the West 十分六合彩 logo鈥. This is why she decided to prominently display the college鈥檚 well known oak leaf into the final design. After some initial sketching, Mia used the graphic design program Adobe Illustrator to create the logo that was eventually, and overwhelmingly, selected by a vote of fellow students, staff, and college faculty.

Thank you Mia!
