    Extended School Year (ESY)

Students identified by their Individualized Education Program team are invited to participate in the summer Extended School Year program to provide free, appropriate education (FAPE).  The program curriculum is developed based on each student’s individual needs and identified critical skills. It is designed to provide students whose IEP team decides that the benefits the child gained during the regular school year will be significantly jeopardized if the student does not receive ESY services. The need for ESY services is determined on an individual basis by the admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) committee.”

Parents can contact their child’s teacher or the campus diagnostician for more information.

    Secondary Summer School

High School Summer School provides in-district students entering grades 9-12 the opportunity to take courses for credit recovery, academic advancement, and or accelerated learning.

    • Accelerated courses are taken by students to gain academic advancement and to earn credit for the first time and also can be taken by those who failed a course and want to earn an NCAA-approved credit for that class. Students taking an Accelerated Course may try to graduate early or take courses so they have room during the year for electives or more challenging courses. Accelerated courses are marked with the designation ACC.

    • Accelerated Learning Courses are given to help students gain the necessary knowledge to pass a STAAR (EOC) end-of-course assessment that they did not pass in the previous school year(s).  These courses will be offered through Edgenuity and are designed to meet the requirements of HB 1416 that were enacted in July 2023.  Students may take these courses from home and are not required to come to school unless they need help.  The school will have a lab open daily from 8:00 AM-12:00 PM with teachers available to help students.  The student must complete the entire course and make a 70% or higher on the final exam for the class to count towards accelerated instruction.

    • EOC Testing Courses in Edgenuity:  Students who need to take an EOC Test will test on June 16, 17, and 18, 2025, depending on the assessment that the student needs.

    • NCAA Eligibility: To enroll in NCAA-approved courses, please talk to your counselor. We want to ensure all students are enrolled in the correct course.

    • Credit Recovery courses are taken by students who failed a course in the previous year. However, these courses are not NCAA-approved. Credit Recovery students have already taken the course but have yet to receive credit for the course due to a failing grade or incomplete hours. Credit Recovery courses are marked with the designation CR.
